DO YOUR PART FOR YOG:PM LEE By Amanda Wong, Multimedia Journalist Razor TV WITH 62 days to go, Singaporeans are all gearing up for the first ever Youth Olympic Games. Over 3,000 residents enjoyed a morning of fun and games with telematches, a basketball tournament and Olympic game stalls at the Hwi Yoh Community Centre at Serangoon North today, as part of efforts to promote YOG in the heartlands. Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said Singaporeans can do their part to make the Games a success by making the athletes feel welcome and giving them a memorable experience. Some 3600 youth athletes from 205 countries will take part in the Games from August 14-26, with Singapore competing in 25 sports including diving, wrestling and badminton. Find out how you can play a part in the YOG, on RazorTV. RESPONSE: I really think that the Youth Olympic Games,YOG, is one way Singapore can broaden its horizon. Singapore is a small conutry with no natural resources, which means we have a small talent pool. As you all know, even our table tennis players are imported from China. Basically, Singapore has a limited talents causing the government to import foreign talent. Im not saying this is wrong but it just reflects how Singaporeans are to the world. With the YOG held in Singapore, it would be a great start for Singapore's youths to discover their talents in sports, and at the same time be exposed to sports. Exposure to sports, which will eventually promote healthy lifestyle, is always good. Frankly, Im not a athletic person and never indulge myself in any kind of sposrt and stick to it. Im more of a aesthetic person. But with the YOG around the corner, I cant wait to see how my fellow youths compete in their various sports. ALL THE BEST!!! Nurhidayah |
